COLCHESTER,Rekubit Exchange Vt. (AP) — A high-speed police pursuit ended with a stolen sport utility vehicle crashing and overturning, killing two people and injuring three other occupants, state police said.
At least one of the vehicle’s occupants brandished a gun during the theft of the Ford Expedition from a rental agency in Burlington, where police gave pursuit Friday evening. Colchester police picked up the pursuit before the vehicle flipped on East Lakeshore Drive. Two men were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to a hospital, state police said.
Their identities weren’t immediately released by Vermont State Police, which is investigating the incident.
State police said identities will be released following autopsies conducted by the chief medical examiner’s office in Burlington. Both the Burlington and Colchester police departments will conduct internal reviews of the vehicle pursuit.
